We are relieved that Kauswagan was not as badly affected as Cagayan de Oro and Iligan — no heavy flooding, although many people are sheltered in the Churches throughout the area. However, please do keep praying for our countrymen in CDO and Iligan. And let us help in any way we can.

Hello everyone!

We apologize for the long hiatus. It’s been a very busy time for everyone, and it took us a while to get in touch with Sr. Mercy. However, we have some terrific news! We now have the names and pictures of our new scholars!

Most of our sponsors now have the names and pictures of their scholars in their inboxes. For some, however, it might take a while. Sr. Mercy is still very busy interviewing possible candidates for our scholarship. Enrollment ends in February 2012 for the schoolyear 2011-2012. As explained to us by Sr. Mercy, this is because the school understands that the children’s parents might not have enough resources to pay the tuition fee early on in the schoolyear. So they are given until February to settle the tuition with the school. Which means, Sr. Mercy has until February to finalize our scholars for this school year. As soon as Sr. Mercy sends us more names, we will let you guys know who our scholars are.

Thank you so much for all your support. The children really appreciate your help — and so do we. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Sister Mercy informed us that enrollment at SVA is still ongoing and shall continue until July. She is busy interviewing possible scholars at present, but she will send us a list of qualified scholars by the end of enrollment. As soon as we get the list, we shall inform you (via e-mail) who your scholar is :)

A Letter from Gen Bear

One of our former scholars, Gen Bear, sent us a thank you note for helping us last school year. Since she did so well in school last year, she was qualified for the TEA Scholarship (Transformative Education in the Assumption) — it’s a scholarship fund of the Assumption which has more benefits (tuition plus some expenses) but has a higher grade requirement than the ACHS 99 Scholarship Fund.

Dear Friends,

We write in behalf of the students of St. Vincent’s Academy (SVA).

SVA is located in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte – a poor, war-torn area in Mindanao. SVA, together with the Religious of the Assumption, strives to educate the children of Kauswagan academically, emotionally, and spiritually. The children are taught the importance of seeking and keeping peace through various activities such as the yearly Peace Camps.

Keeping children in school gives them the education and skills they need to succeed in life. However, it is important to send children to schools such as SVA because there they are taught the values they will need to grow into good, peace-loving adults.

For Php 3,500, you can send a child to school in SVA for an entire schoolyear. Your contribution can change a child’s life and put him or her on the path to a peaceful, well-lived life.

Many of the children in Kauswagan are desperate to go to school but lack the means to do so. We hope that you will consider sponsoring a child. If you are interested, please send us a message at achs99@gmail.com.

There were 388 students enrolled in St. Vincent Academy last school year. Each class had around 40 to 45 students.

There are 20 Assumption Education Development (AEDEV) Scholars every year.

There were 8 TEA (another Assumption scholarship) Scholars last year.

Assumption also had 4 special scholars last year.

ACHS 99 sent 7 children to school last year.
